Midstate is a post-quantum, BLAKE3 proof-of-work chain — a verifiable delay function bounds block production by sequential work rather than raw parallel hashing. The pool endpoint is compiled into the miner — you never type a pool address, and there is no --pool / --url / --server flag. All you supply is your payout address.

Step 1 — Get a payout address (addr20)

Your payout address is an addr20: 40 hexadecimal characters (an optional 0x prefix is accepted, e.g. 6fd602af125e9451e199cae2eb8c9e16b290866a).

If you already have a Midstate wallet/node address, use that. Otherwise create one:

Windows: download and double-click create-wallet.bat — it prints your address and saves the private key to midstate-wallet.txt.

Linux:

Already have the miner binary? Run it with newwallet, e.g. midstate-pool-miner-linux-cpu newwallet.

⚠️ Back up midstate-wallet.txt. It holds your private key. Lose it, lose the coins.

Payouts go to this address, automatically, about every 30 minutes, for any balance over the 0.001 gMID minimum. The pool fee is 0.75%.

Step 2 — Install the miner

One click.

Download install-midstate-miner.bat from the latest release (or the repo).
Double-click it.

It auto-detects your GPU (NVIDIA / AMD, else CPU), installs the Microsoft VC++ runtime if missing, downloads the matching miner from the latest release, asks for your addr20 the first time (and remembers it), then starts mining and keeps itself up to date.

The winget first-run hang is fixed as of the current release.

Force a specific build if auto-detect is wrong:

Run 24/7 as a Windows service (optional): after installing, double-click install-as-service.bat — it registers midstate-pool-miner to start on boot and auto-restart on crash. Remove it with uninstall-service.bat.

Requirements: NVIDIA needs a recent NVIDIA driver (no CUDA Toolkit required — the miner JITs its kernel through the driver). AMD needs an OpenCL runtime. CPU needs nothing.

Add --worker <name> (or on HiveOS append it inside Extra config arguments) to label a rig on the dashboard, e.g. --worker rig1. Allowed characters A-Za-z0-9_-, max 24.

This is display-only — payouts always go to your bare address regardless of rig name. On Linux/HiveOS it also falls back to the MIDSTATE_WORKER env var, then WORKER_NAME (HiveOS), then the hostname. Turn it off with --no-worker or MIDSTATE_NO_WORKER=1.

v0.2.4: the miner reports its GPU model in the connection handshake (e.g. RTX 5070 Ti) so the dashboard can show per-card hashrate expectations. Opt out with --no-hardware-report.

solo is a reserved worker name — --worker solo switches the rig into solo mining (see below); it changes how your address is credited, not just the label. Every other name is display-only.

Solo mining (optional)

Want to go for the whole block yourself instead of a steady pool cut? Set your worker name to the reserved keyword solo — on HiveOS add it to Extra config arguments:

--worker solo

Your miner then authorizes as <address>.solo and mines solo:

Your shares are excluded from the pool (PPLNS) split.
If your rig solves a block, you get the full block reward minus the 0.75% fee — no sharing — after 10 confirmations, on the normal payout schedule.
If you don't, you earn nothing that round. Solo is high-variance: it shines with serious hashrate (or if you feel lucky), while pool mining pays smoother.

Your payout address is unchanged — solo only changes how it's credited, never which address. Switch back to pool mining with any other worker name (e.g. --worker rig1) or none. Solo block wins show up in blue on the Winners board; your solo rig's hashrate + shares appear in the "Your Miner" box.

Checking it's working

Your rig appears on the dashboard: midstate.yamaduo.no — look up your address in the "Your Miner" box to see your hashrate, rigs, and pending payout.
Payouts land automatically, about every 30 minutes, to your addr20, for balances over the 0.001 gMID minimum (pool fee 0.75%).
